Contagious

I was planning on writing something else today, but will not have time to properly compose my thoughts due to my son having come down with a contagious disease. Basically he has bumps and pimply looking things all over. It’s not chicken pox, but in Korean it’s called 수족구 where as chicken pox is 수두. Using the online dictionaries has only come up with the English being hand, foot & mouth disease but I’ve never heard of that so am not sure if the English is correct or not. It pretty much bites when you can’t speak the local language perfectly.

Anyhow it’s not overly serious, some meds for one week and he’ll be fine. The problem is that we cannot send him to daycare and this is a very inconvenient time. Normally I would be able to cancel some of my classes, but this week is final exams and it’s not really possible to cancel exams. Plus I need all my spare time to get grading done. Additionally my wife is really busy at work. This means a very expensive option of a baby sitter whom we don’t know as we’ll have to go through a paid service.

Currently The Hollow Son (THS) cries around strangers and runs away so whoever we get is in for a tough day. We also don’t like having someone in our house that we don’t know while we are not there all day.

Please pray for THS and that we can get this resolved ASAP.

I found your email because you commented on my husband’s blog at http://www.monsterlizard.com I wanted to tell you that hand, foot, & mouth disease is the correct English translation.  It’s something that kids commonly get and it’s very contagious, but pretty harmless other than that.  Anyway, I will definitely pray for The Hollow Son and I hope he’s feeling better soon! =)

Heather,
Thank you for the information. I’ve lived abroad for so long and had no contact with children before moving that there is a lot of terminology that I am unaware of when it comes to childhood illnesses. THD who is 5 never got this, but now I know.

woo hoo, the first comment from someone I have not actually met.

Prayer Request

The guy at my church

There’s a guy at my church who has it in for me. The pastor has talked to me and warned me about his unstable personality and to do my best to avoid him. My prayer is that nothing bad happens to me or my family and also that this person can be healed and overcome his issues.

Being a Good Father

I would like wisdom and guidance on how to be a better father to my children.
